1. Ashley and Lucy met years before PLL - on MySpace
Having met through mutual friends on MySpace, the pair bonded and became internet friends, meeting for the first time at a Disneyland birthday party when they were young teens.

2. Shay Mitchell very nearly played Spencer
Before landing the role of Emily, she auditioned for the part of Spencer, so things could have been very different if Troian hadn't got the part instead.

3. Officer Garrett Reynolds might seem a little familiar - he played Italian popstar Pablo in The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
This really is what dreams are made of. 

4. Ashley Benson is the person responsible for the PLL theme tune
Yup, it was Ashley who brought Secret to the attention of the show's producers as she'd been listening to it while they filmed season 1. Recalling how it happened, she said: "I have to take some credit here, because I was the one who brought that song to the producers and told them, 'You have to have this as the opening credits song.'  I'm a huge fan of The Pierces - that's the group who sings Secret - I was listening to the song while we were filming in Vancouver and I was like, 'Oh my god, that's the best song for the show.'

"I pitched it to the producers and the creator and they said 'Maybe,' and it turned out to be the song. So I couldn't be happier. It's just so spooky and eerie, and it's perfect for the show."

5. Alison's surname 'DiLaurentis' is an anagram of 'Liars United'

6. Sasha Pieterse - aka Ali - originally auditioned to play Hanna
Not only that but she was THIRTEEN when she auditioned. She's the only Liar who is actually a teenager too - the other four are all in their mid to late twenties.


7. Shay Mitchell's real name isn't actually Shay.
She was actually born Shannon.

8. Speaking of which, Lucy Hale would quite like Aria to get with Toby next.
"If I had to pick one in real life, character-wise I think I'd go with Toby," she told Celebuzz. "He's got the whole mysterious thing going on, and he's quiet but still really sexy. That would be my type."


9. The Apple Rose Grille was once Luke's Diner on Gilmore Girls
Granted Luke wouldn't be caught dead serving drinks in mason jars with cutesy striped straws, but before it was the Liars hangout, the set was used as his diner on Gilmore Girls. It's actually part of Warner Bros. Midwest Street lot, so you might recognise similar shop fronts and the church spire from other shows including Hart of Dixie. 

10. Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson and Janel Parrish all has small parts on The OC.

11. PLL author Sara Shepard did actually cameo on the show. 
She played a substitute teacher for Aria's class back in Season 1.
